Every list I have ever written has been too long. The correction is never to plan better; it is to go once with too much, notice what stayed in the bag, and take that out next time.
Three trips of that and the bag halves itself. No system required.
The things that survive every cull, for me: one warm layer more than the forecast justifies, a headlamp with fresh cells, and more water than seems reasonable. Everything else has proven negotiable.
